Metaformers Takes to the High Seas

February 2005
Nassau, Bahamas

Feeling the winter blahs? We were! So company president, Ed Bouryng, gave Metaformers employees the ultimate trip for the middle of winter - a cruise to the Bahamas. In keeping with two of Metaformers core values, fun and innovation, the trip's goal was to enhance the already-prevalent sense of team and foster new ideas.

Members of the Washington, DC and Los Angeles, CA offices met up in Miami for a night of fun in South Beach prior to embarking on a Caribbean adventure. The fun didn't stop once everyone boarded Majesty of the Seas, our vessel for the weekend. Races on the rock climbing wall, dinner and dancing, and poolside lounging kept everyone in an upbeat mood. Once on the islands, the vibrant turquoise Caribbean Sea impressed the seasoned snorkelers, scuba divers and sun worshipers alike.

The time at sea provided ample opportunity to have forward-thinking, round-table discussions. To spur the dialogue, small groups of consultants were challenged to prepare an innovative presentation on chapters of Michael Abrashoff's fittingly titled It's Your Ship, a book on progressive management techniques. The results were as varied as our team skits, facilitated discussion, music and traditional presentation skills were all employed.

The trip was an overwhelming success, proving Metaformers' abilities to live up to the old saying "work hard, play hard." After discovering the many benefits of team travel, this cruise is likely to be the first of many annual trips in the years to come.
