Metaformers Sponsors Vote for Charity at Alliance 2009
April 7, 2009
McLean, VA
Today Metaformers announced the results and subsequent donations for its Vote for Charity at the Alliance 2009 conference held in Anaheim, CA from March 22-25. These donations are a continuation of Metaformers’ program to combine charitable giving with business events. Metaformers decided to forgo giving away the usual conference promotional items and asked conference attendees to vote for donations to their favorite charities.
Metaformers started with six charities in a preconference vote and asked attendees to select the three finalist charities they wanted to vote on at the conference. Conference attendees sent in their votes and determined that The Humane Society, Make-A-Wish, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure would go on to the final round of conference voting. Metaformers made a small donation to each of the runner up charities: the American Heart Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
At the conference Metaformers had ballot boxes for each of the three charity finalists. Attendees could vote for the cause of their choice by dropping a ping pong ball into the corresponding bucket. Many people elected to “decorate” their vote by writing on the ball before tossing it into the bin. They drew pictures of dog or cat faces on balls for The Humane Society and left remembrances or words of hope on the balls for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Many people had stories to tell about their connection to one or more of the organizations and how they touched the lives of loved ones. It struck a chord with many people that in a difficult year it is still urgently important to support others.
In the end, with over 700 votes cast, there were only 10 votes difference between the top two charities. Based on the votes from the attendees, Metaformers contributed the first place donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the second place donation to Make-A-Wish, and third place to The Humane Society.
